Came to work this morning and I have a white board in the entrance to my office however I had these visitors the other weekend that dropped in for a chat and coffee. This morning however I noticed a message from them…… Shows how relaxed I am these days and don’t notice too much! 😀
So 2017 is here and we all have a little time off I gather so what are you all up to? We decided to go for a drive to the shore nice drive to Devonport via the coast, Mission bay etc. Julie drove so it was nice to relax as a passenger 😀City of Auckland in the foreground.
guess where this fish is and guess what is here hidden?
Ended up at Glenfield mall for a bite to eat which we enjoyed. We had both been amazed at this tree as it has all sorts of life on it 😀 Don’t see these in West or South Auckland!
both enjoyed the drive and walk around Devonport and the mall, great to get out this side of the city as we hadn’t been here in sometime, the cafes at Devonport had been very busy people everywhere hence why we ended up in the mall as this was far better with less people around 🙂
Thank you Julie for the drive 🙂
Hope you all had a good Christmas.
We decided to go south and have some takeaways at Papakura on boxing day however it was closed 🙁 never mind we thought….. Let’s head to Karaka as there is a good fish n chip shop to have some nice takeaways! not so as they had been closed… Never fair Kingseat takeaways is just down the road we will go to that shop….. not bloody so as that was closed… Okay that’s all good as we are on holidays and we will just drive until we find something, mind you I suggested a takeaways shop at Waiuku…. Traveled to this and yep you guessed it closed! In the main street we found a place booming with business, I wonder why…. We ordered and went to a place I used to have a cache hiding and ate there, it was nice.
Headed off and on the way back we went to Glenbrook for a drive and stretched our legs!
enjoyed the drive and of course the company 🙂
My darling husband suggested we have a Xmas treat and have beef lasagnes from this amazing place. We usually go once a fortnight to stay within our budgets. However it’s Xmas time and the owners advised us last week that they would be going back to Italy for most of January. Hence my lovely husband suggesting we have this again to get our fix before the drought that will be January!
Imagine our surprise when they presented us with a large ham and cheese pizza as ANOTHER Xmas gift. We were delighted and have decided that we will not bother going anywhere else for takeout food as these guys are the BEST!
The wife and I went for our take out this evening and when we went to pick up our regular order the owner greeted us with a Merry Christmas and gave us garlic pizza for Christmas, what a surprise so friendly and a fantastic place for authentic Italian pizza a pasta. Meadowbank Pizzeria 😆🍕🍝Thank you for dinner Julie.😘
If your in the area we highly recommend this place they are honestly fantastic and well well worth the visit.
In the past week or so we have both celebrated our birthdays which meant we went to Denny’s for a meal each which was good.
Went for a drive to Clarke’s beach and outer suburb’s which made for an enjoyable day
Also went for a visit to MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology) we both hadn’t been here for many years, Nice to walk around in and we enjoyed looking at the older style houses and what they lived in and some of the utilities they used. Nothing much else really tickled our fancy to be honest. However we did enjoy the day 🙂
Waitakere is out west and yes we are both Westies from way back 😀
Thank you to my wife for the dinner on Monday night at Denny’s.
It was my birthday so we enjoyed the following day together as I had to work so the Monday was great with the start of a great meal that night then off for two days 🙂 Julie’s turn next week 🙂 Looking forward to it babe.
Top marks to Don and the guys at Air Conditioning Services in Penrose. From start to finish Don was fantastic… You just don’t get service like these guys anymore. Far out does any business that I have been too lately. Friendly and the follow up is fantastic. Oh yeah I forgot to mention the guy has just had a hip replacement so you could only imagine how old he is, no wonder the service is top notch!
Bring back the good old days where people cared about there employment and cared about the customer and what they need.
We decided to head to Wanganui on the Friday however only got to Te Kuiti for the first night stopping at Huntly for a bite to eat after the traffic and small accident at the Bombay’s (trailer over turning on motorway) as you could imagine we had been in bumper to bumper traffic for some time so the stop at Huntly was a good call. Left at around 1815 and finally arrived at the motel in Te Kuiti at around 2013 after eating in Huntly. Time to get to Huntly
was a staggering 1hr 44 minutes 🙁
The stay overnight was great, comfortable and just what we both needed. Up and across to the cafe across the road from the Motel which suited us 🙂 then we went to the wife’s grandparents old place from the 50’s a shop in Te Kuiti which is still operating as a dairy, great to see the building still a shop for the local community.
After the look around we headed south to Wanganui stopping at Taumarunui which was a quick stop only to stretch the legs and do the needy things 😀
Headed off feeling much better 😀 and had a good drive to the falls (Raukawa Falls) taking 1hr 8 minutes great travelling and enjoyed the sites along the way.
Last leg of the trip was to Wanganui which was another good run with little traffic although we had been glad it was Saturday as the road had a few slips to pass which meant down to a single lane although we had the right of way but still nice, there was no road work guys around to slow the traffic further.
Arrived at Wanganui which we found to be windy as but still nice weather so we headed to the motel to get sorted before looking around the town.
47 minutes wasn’t at all bad considering the road.
Stayed overnight in Wanganui had fish n chips at a place in Aramoho which used to be a good place back when I lived here but now not so good as the chips had been under cooked and the fish was not nice at all! Still we settled in the motel for the night…. Have to say the stay was comfortable but the shower was just terrible, cold which was not on. Next day we did what we had to,looked around a little as the wife had never been here before so was nice to be able to show her around. 🙂
Sunday 20/11/2016 Headed off to Taupo as we decided to spend two nights here due to having cold showers and Wanganui being very quiet! First stop Waiouru along with the Mountain including snow, it looked fantastic! Stopped for a drink and something to eat 🙂
Great travelling with good traffic and great weather today 😀 😀 Should have stopped for a little longer here as we could have taken more photos however wanted to get to a motel so we could relax!
Taupo here we come around the east side of the lake great drive through the desert hwy and around the east side of the lake fantastic scenery on this leg of the trip! Loved it!
It was great having the mountain to our left with the snow around it even this late in the year, not cold by any means and we were both happy to arrive in Taupo as the atmosphere is amazing along with the environment, I have been here a couple of times myself in the past due to having to come here for conferences with work usually staying a couple of nights so it was nice to be here with my wife and enjoying the company. Taupo we both loved and made the most of being here going to Huka falls and doing some driving around the place.
After a great couple of nights at a really good motel we had to head home 🙁 we really didn’t want to but im sure we will be back in the near future to explore more and enjoy this great place, looking to go to Napier sometime so we may incorporate this in the trip here next time 🙂 Acacia bay was a nice drive as well, along with the lake.
Tuesday 22/11/2016 Leaving, back to Auckland. No we don’t really want to leave this amazing place! Stopped off at Tirau for a quick break and looked at shops etc which was nice to have the break and stretch the legs!
Good traffic although we had one idiot, being a taxi driver apart from that the whole trip had no others 😀 it was another great day weather wise so nice to be able to get out and about when a hot day 🙂 Onto Pokeno for something to eat at our favorite cafe 🙂 🙂 well worth the drive!
Closer to home we are both thinking oh well life goes on 🙂 32 minutes later we are home and thinking of another break away 🙂 🙂 Round trip from Auckland to Wanganui and Wanganui, Taupo and back to Auckland without running around in the towns totaling 965 k’s so would have done well over 1k in traveling and took 11hrs 30 minutes traveling time return. Great company and great trip!
